Effective August 18, 2026
Matt’s Sports & Ammo LLC is a federally licensed firearms dealer in Comstock Park, Michigan. This
page sets out the age and eligibility rules for buying from us, online and in the shop.
If anything here is unclear, call us at (616) 784-6811 before you order. We would much rather
answer a question than turn someone away at the counter.
Age requirements
You must be at least 21 years old to order any ammunition on this website, whatever it is
chambered for, including rifle and shotgun ammunition.
This is our own rule and it is stricter than the law. Federal law sets 18 for rifle and shotgun
ammunition and 21 for handgun ammunition, and Michigan adds no age rule of its own. We have chosen a
single clear line for online orders rather than a judgment call at the counter about what a
cartridge is going to be fired from.
The 18 requirement you agreed to on the way into this site covers browsing. Ordering is 21.
We check photo ID at pickup, every time. If the ID does not meet the requirement or does not
match the order, we cannot release it. This is not something we have discretion about.
If someone else is collecting an order for you, call us first. They have to meet the same age
requirement and show their own ID.
Who cannot buy
Federal law prohibits certain people from receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition. The
ammunition part is often missed, so it is worth saying plainly: these rules apply to what we sell,
not only to guns.
You may not buy from us if you:
- have been convicted of a felony, or any crime punishable by more than one year in prison,
- have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence,
- are subject to a qualifying restraining order,
- are a fugitive from justice,
- are an unlawful user of, or addicted to, any controlled substance,
- have been adjudicated as mentally defective, or committed to a mental institution,
- were discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions,
- are unlawfully in the United States, or are here on a nonimmigrant visa, or
- have renounced your United States citizenship.
It is also a federal crime to buy ammunition for someone you know cannot legally have it, and a
crime for us to sell to someone we have reasonable cause to believe is prohibited. We take that
seriously and we will refuse a sale we are not comfortable with.
If you are not sure whether something in your history affects you, talk to a lawyer rather than
guessing. We cannot give you legal advice, and we would rather you asked than found out the hard
way.
What we sell online
This website sells ammunition, reloading components and shooting accessories only. We do not sell
firearms through this website.
Firearm sales and FFL transfers happen in person at the shop, with the background check and
paperwork the law requires. Email in**@*******mo.com with “FFL Request” in the subject line, or
call us, and we will walk you through it.
Your local law is your responsibility
Ammunition rules vary by state, county and city, and they change. Magazine limits, ammunition
registration, permit requirements and outright bans on certain types all exist somewhere.
You are responsible for knowing and following the law where you live. By ordering you confirm
it is legal for you to buy and possess what you are ordering. If you are not sure, check before you
order rather than after.
Because we are pickup only, the practical rule is simple: if you can legally possess it in Michigan
and you meet the age requirement, we can sell it to you.
Reloading and handloading
We sell powder, primers, brass, bullets and reloading equipment. Handloading is done at your own
risk. Always use current published load data from the powder or bullet manufacturer, never
substitute components, and never exceed a published maximum charge. The full disclaimer is in our
Terms of Sale.
If you are new to reloading, come in and talk to us. Genuinely. It is a good way to spend twenty
minutes and it is safer than working it out from a forum post.
Safe storage
Store ammunition and propellants in a cool, dry place, away from heat and ignition sources, and out
of the reach of children. Keep powder in its original container. Do not store powder and primers
together in quantity.
Our records
Federal law does not require dealers to keep records of ordinary ammunition sales, and we do not
keep a registry of who bought what ammunition. That requirement was removed from federal law in
1986.
What we do keep: the order and payment records any business keeps, described in our
Privacy Policy, and the firearms transfer records federal law does require of
us as a licensed dealer, which we make available to the ATF as required. Those two things are
separate.
Refusing a sale
We reserve the right to refuse any sale, in the shop or online, where we cannot verify age or
eligibility, where we believe a purchase is unlawful or is being made on behalf of someone who
cannot legally buy, or where we simply have reason for concern. We do not have to explain the
reason, and you will not be charged for an order we decline.
